About Rossmarkt Haus Brașov

WHERE HISTORY MEETS COMFORT

IN THE HEART OF BRASOV CITY CENTER

Welcome to Rossmarkt

The right choice for visitors who are searching for a place full of history. Being one of the oldest buildings in Brasov (1493), after a complete renovation in 2019, Rossmarkt offers 21st century comfort and a unique experience in the history of the 15th century. Our four rooms are arranged on the first and second floors in one of the best preserved historical heritage building in the old city center of Brasov.

This building dates back from the year 1493, it was built just 16 years after the construction of the most iconic historical monument from Brasov, the Black Church was finished. The house next to the church, at Rossmarkt Platz 3, miraculously survived the great fire from year 1689, when most of the buildings in Brasov, including the church, were devastated.

In the whole period, the house belonged to merchants, and even to provosts of the city. In 1884 the Evangelical Church bought the house for 8000 “Florins”. In the late 19st century, beginning of the 20st, in the backyard of the building, the cast of bakers organized popular trades, called “Backerhof”.

During the years of 2018 and 2019, the building was fully renovated with the joint effort of the Evangelical Church and the Kovacs family, the latter running the hotel, under the eyes of the most respected experts in restoration from Transylvania, using organic materials which will preserve this beautiful 500 years old house for many more centuries in the future. The most important architectural discoveries are the stone arches on the first floor windows, the old fire place in room 2, the beautiful wooden ceiling from the ground floor with specific scratches used as decoration before the reformation, and the 3 stone portals also from the ground floor. These can be admired in the breakfast room.

The spacious rooms offer now all the comfort needed in the 21st century, emphasizing in the same time the historical footprint of the building’s architecture and atmosphere.
